Pros and cons
What SketchUp Pro does especially well — and the limits to anticipate.
Pros
- Accessible, quick-to-learn 3D modelling.
- Ecosystem of 1,000+ extensions.
- Cross-platform (desktop, web, iPad) with cloud storage.
- Photorealistic rendering and visualisation.
Cons
- No general-public free plan (education only).
- Annual subscription, no perpetual license.
- Less suited to artistic/organic 3D.
SketchUp Pro: when it makes sense.
SketchUp Pro makes sense when 3D modelling (arch, interiors, product) is a regular need; for occasional or artistic 3D, another tool fits better.
Keep if
You model in 3D for architecture, interiors or product design.. You want an accessible tool with a large extension ecosystem.
- You use it at least once a week
- The monthly cost (€29) is small next to the time it saves you
Challenge if
Your 3D needs are occasional or covered by a free tool.. You want advanced artistic/organic 3D (sculpting).
- You use it less than once a month
- Blender (free) already covers the essentials for occasional use
