Pros and cons
What Toggl Track does especially well — and the limits to anticipate.
Pros
- Simple interface, starting/stopping the timer takes a second
- Detailed reports by client, project, or tag to back up an invoice
- Generous free version for solo use
Cons
- No automatic detection — everything relies on the reflex to start the timer
- Team features (scheduling, approval) require a paid plan
- No built-in invoicing, just time tracking
Toggl Track: when it makes sense.
As soon as you bill by time spent or want to optimize your profitability.
Keep if
You bill based on time spent. You want to know where your time goes
- You use it at least once a week
- The monthly cost (€8) is small next to the time it saves you
Challenge if
You charge on a flat-fee basis only. You have only one recurring client
- You use it less than once a month
- toggl (free) already covers the essentials for occasional use
