Pros and cons
What Red Giant Universe does especially well — and the limits to anticipate.
Pros
- Dozens of modern transitions and effects in one click
- Works in Premiere, After Effects, Resolve, Final Cut, Vegas
- GPU-accelerated, fast to apply
- Included in Red Giant Complete and Maxon One
Cons
- Now mostly via Red Giant Complete (~$50/month)
- Native transitions already cover a lot
- Template packs can be cheaper
- Subscription only, no perpetual license
Red Giant Universe: when it makes sense.
Worth it for a regular editor who wants a modern look without building it. For light use, native effects or templates are enough.
Keep if
You edit regularly and want trendy transitions/effects in one click. You work across several apps (Premiere, Resolve, Final Cut)
- You use it at least once a week
- The monthly cost (€50) is small next to the time it saves you
Challenge if
Your editing app's native transitions are enough. You'd rather buy cheaper one-off template packs
- You use it less than once a month
- A simple free version or a tool already in your stack would do
