WeTransfer does one thing: send files too big for email, through a link. No account, no install, you drop up to 3 GB and share the link. That simplicity made it the default tool for a big chunk of the creative and freelance world for a decade.

The problem is what changed after Bending Spoons acquired it in 2024. The free tier, long generous, is now capped at 10 transfers per month and links expire after 3 days. For the occasional send, fine. But if you deliver client files every week, you hit the wall fast, and the tool nudges you toward the Starter plan (6.99$/month, 300 GB per transfer) or a higher tier.

There was also the 2025 episode: a terms-of-service update suggested WeTransfer could use uploaded files to train AI. The company reversed course after the backlash, but for anyone transferring sensitive client documents, the doubt lingers. Bottom line: WeTransfer is handy for a one-off, lightweight send. The moment it becomes recurring or confidential, a Google Drive or Dropbox link does the same job without the counter.
