Pros and cons
What Auto-Rig Pro does especially well — and the limits to anticipate.
Pros
- One-time $40 purchase, no subscription
- FBX/glTF export ready for Unity, Unreal, Godot
- Animation retargeting between different characters
- Regular updates, follows new Blender versions
Cons
- Real learning curve at the start (lots of options)
- Documentation sometimes seen as improvable by the community
- Blender-specific, not multi-software
Auto-Rig Pro: when it makes sense.
Very worth it as soon as you rig characters more than once or twice: $40 paid once for a huge time saving.
Keep if
You rig characters regularly in Blender, for games, animation or motion design. You export to Unity, Unreal or Godot and want a clean FBX/glTF pipeline
- You use it at least once a week
- The monthly cost (€40) is small next to the time it saves you
Challenge if
You only rig a simple character occasionally: Blender's manual rigging may be enough. You're looking for a mocap tool, not rigging (see Move AI or Autodesk Flow Studio instead)
- You use it less than once a month
- A simple free version or a tool already in your stack would do
