    01 / The selection

    Which tool does what?

    02 / ToolTrim's take

    Why these tools together?

A strong UI/UX setup starts with three layers: Figma as the source of truth, Tokens Studio only if styles need to live beyond mockups, and Stark before delivery to catch contrast issues. Iconify helps because it avoids scattering icons across ten files. Zeplin only makes sense if the dev team does not work in Figma. Otherwise it is a second handoff layer that adds noise.

    A good fit if…

Freelance UI/UX, solo product designers, SaaS redesigns, light design systems, and landing pages.

    Look elsewhere if…

You mostly deliver print, photo, or identity work without interfaces.

    One design source of truth

Figma holds components, states, comments, and approved screens.

    Tokens only when useful

Tokens Studio pays off when colors, typography, and spacing must be maintained across several themes or products.

    Quality control before dev

Stark and component checks avoid handing off errors that cost more in development.

    03 / Budget

    What should you budget?

Target budget$49per month, to get started
Core at list price$70per month, 7 tools on their first paid plan

The target budget is the recommended starting envelope. The list price adds up each core tool's first paid plan. Optional tools are not included.

    04 / Trade-offs

    What to watch out for

    The trap in this stack

Multiplying plugins, libraries, and handoff tools while the real issue is missing shared conventions.

    • Magic plugin

A plugin does not replace clear naming or a clean library.

    • Zeplin by habit

Keep Zeplin only if the client requires it or if Figma Dev Mode is not adopted.

    • More than 40 components

That is when variants, naming, tokens, and states need structure.

    • Recurring dev handoff

If the same questions return, it is not a plugin problem: it is a conventions problem.

    Self-check

    Questions to ask yourself

    1. Do your components have clearly named variants and states?

No → start there before adding a handoff tool. Developers need rules, not decoration.

    2. Do you use Tokens Studio for a real system or just to store colors?

Only colors → native Figma styles are enough. Tokens Studio earns its place when tokens must be exported or synced.

    3. Is accessibility checked before client review?

No → Stark should run before delivery, otherwise fixes arrive too late and cost more.
