    VFX Suite

Red Giant's compositing, keying and VFX effects suite for After Effects.

    ToolTrim verdict4.0/ 5Great

VFX Suite is essential for motion design studios; for basic video editing, After Effects native tools suffice.

    About

In practice. What you can do with VFX Suite.

VFX Suite is Red Giant's set of compositing and visual effects tools, designed to do VFX right inside After Effects without going through a dedicated compositing app. It includes quality green-screen keying, Supercomp (a layer-based light compositing environment), King Pin Tracker (tracking and corner pin), Optical Glow, Chromatic Displacement and the famous Knoll Light Factory lens flares.

Like all of Red Giant, VFX Suite now comes via the Red Giant Complete subscription (~$50/month) or Maxon One, with no more standalone sales. It's a real comfort for anyone doing light to medium compositing in After Effects. For heavy, pro compositing, however, a dedicated tool like Nuke remains the reference. VFX Suite mostly makes sense if After Effects is your central tool and you want to keep your VFX there.

    Practical uses

    • Produce title and opening animations for film/TV.
    • Professional color correction and grading for video.
    • Create complex VFX effects (particles, destruction, etc.).
    • Develop motion design content for marketing and branding.

    Keep if

You do professional motion design or video post-production.. You need a complete suite of effects and grading tools.

    VFX Suite becomes worthwhile when
    • You use it at least once a week
    • The monthly cost ($50) is small next to the time it saves you

    Challenge if

You edit videos occasionally without advanced needs.. You prefer free or open-source solutions.

VFX Suite becomes too expensive when
    • You use it less than once a month
    • A simple free version or a tool already in your stack would do
