    Our take

    Understanding Stripe.

Stripe is the payment infrastructure for the internet. Free to start, paid plans for more. Built for SaaS founders and e-commerce sellers.

Ultra-flexible API to create any payment experience. no-code Payment Links for quick invoicing, automatic subscription management and recurring billing. 40+ payment methods (Cards, SEPA, Apple Pay, Google Pay...). In practice: freelancers: send payment links to invoice for your services. Also: course creators: sell online training with recurring payments. Estimated time saving: 2h/month.

Keep it if: selling digital products or need for simple payment links. Skip it if: bank transfer is sufficient or local customers only/checks. Main limit: fees of 1.5% + €0.25 per transaction (higher than some competitors). From the very first euro you want to collect online without friction.

    Practical uses

    • Integrate payments into custom web/mobile app.
    • Process international multi-currency payments.
    • SaaSRecurring billing.

    Pros and cons

What Stripe does especially well — and the limits to anticipate.

    Pros

    • Most flexible and robust API on market.
    • Support 135+ countries and 135+ currencies.
    • Excellent developer documentation and support.
    • Zero fees until first payment.
    • Massive integrations (rich ecosystem).

    Cons

    • Fees slightly higher than alternatives (Razorpay, Adyen).
    • International cards: additional fees.
    • No 'turnkey' solution (requires integration).

    Stripe: when it makes sense.

Stripe suits most developers/apps; for Shopify ecommerce, use Shopify Payments. For very high volume, negotiate rates.

    Keep if

You have a web/mobile app needing payment integration.. You want robust, flexible API.

    Challenge if

You want absolutely lowest fees (Razorpay cheaper).. You're on Shopify (Shopify Payments simpler).

    Our verdict on Stripe.

    Why this verdict

    Decent

Stripe is fairly easy to replace with an alternative, a free tier to test before paying, clearly documented use cases.
