Firefly makes sense when generative AI must integrate natively into an Adobe flow (Photoshop, Premiere); for isolated use, a third-party model may fit.

    Our take

    Understanding Adobe Firefly.

Adobe Firefly is Adobe's family of generative AI models. It's best known through Generative Fill in Photoshop: you select an area, describe what you want, and the AI completes or replaces the image strikingly. Firefly also exists as a standalone web app to generate images, stylized text or vectors.

Its strong argument isn't pure artistic quality (where Midjourney stays ahead), but integration and legal safety: Firefly is trained on licensed content (Adobe Stock), making it usable commercially without worry. The model is credit-based: you get some included in your Creative Cloud subscription, plus paid plans (from around $10/month) to go further.

Who it's for: anyone already in the Adobe ecosystem. Generative Fill alone justifies using it. If you're not on Adobe and want the best quality or most control, Midjourney or other models will fit better.

You don't use generative AI.. You prefer a third-party model (Midjourney, DALL·E).
