Pros and cons
What Newton 3 does especially well — and the limits to anticipate.
Pros
- Professional, flexible physics simulation.
- Saves huge time on physics keyframing.
- Results auto-converted to AE keyframes (editable after).
- Perpetual license (no subscription).
- 6 object and joint types offer advanced control.
Cons
- High price for specialized plugin.
- No free version; only a student discount is available.
- Newton 3 no longer updated (Newton 4 recommended, paid upgrade).
- Learning curve: understanding physics and constraints.
- May be overkill for simple animations.
Newton 3: when it makes sense.
Newton 3 pays off for frequent physics animations; for occasional use, After Effects built-in effects suffice.
Keep if
You create complex animations with realistic physics (bounces, oscillations).. You want to avoid manual keyframing for physical movement.
Challenge if
You're new to animation and want to master basics first.. You mostly do simple graphic motion design.
