- Perpetual license (no subscription).
- Max for Live for sound design (Suite).
Cons
- No free version.
- Suite edition is pricey.
- Features limited on the Intro edition.
Ableton Live: when it makes sense.
Ableton Live makes sense for electronic production and live performance; for occasional or free studio recording, another DAW fits better.
Keep if
You produce electronic music or perform live.. You like working with clips and improvisation (Session View).
- You use it at least once a week
- The monthly cost (€20) is small next to the time it saves you
Challenge if
You want a free DAW.. You mostly do classic linear studio recording.
- You use it less than once a month
- A simple free version or a tool already in your stack would do
